At the September meeting of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) in Frascati, Italy, Jeff de La Beaujardière, PhD, received the OGC’s prestigious Kenneth D. Gardels Award. The Gardels Award is awarded each year to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to advance OGC’s vision of geospatial information fully integrated into the world’s information systems.

RapidEye’s satellites have captured something truly rare, a new island. After the deadly 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Pakistan, an island was discovered in the Arabian sea, off the coast of Gwadar in Baluchistan Province. The island, made up of hardened mud and rocks, is approximately 170 meters wide and up to 16 meters high.

Astrium, Europe’s leading space technology company, has been selected by the UK Ministry of Justice (MOJ) to provide sophisticated mapping and monitoring services for its new electronic monitoring program. Selected as preferred bidder for the contract, Astrium Services teams based in Far.nborough, Hampshire, will provide the mapping and monitoring expertise to enable the movements of
