Accountability in Forestry and Other NRM Sectors

An important aspect of forest governance is accountability, because there is a need for more feed-back mechanisms. Recently, “Improving accountability for NRM sectors at different scales and levels: An exploration” (38 pp.) was published by the Centre for Development Innovation, part of Wageningen University and Research Centre.
This report, written by Arend Jan van Bodegom, explores the concept of accountability in relation to its possible application in natural resource management (NRM) sectors at different scales and levels, especially in developing countries. Accountability can be exercised by individual citizens, by parliament, by special agencies within the government towards other ones (horizontal accountability), by Civil Society Organisations (social accountability), and by different stakeholder groups together (mutual accountability).
