July 13, 2015 — Participation in the Regional Conference of the International Geographical Union is an important step in the career of every scientist. Not only experienced scientists and experts but beginners (students, postgraduate students) feel a great interest in the conference and aimed at visiting it.

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to travel to an international conference. Despite the relatively small registration fee ($100 for Russian participants and from $250 for foreigners), there are sizable expenses for flights, accommodation, transfers and meals.

The Organizing Committee of the Regional Conference of the IGU traditionally covers part of the expenses, specifically the cost of registration fee. Talented scientists, budding young professionals, whose participation in the event will be valuable to other delegates receive the organizers’ support in the form of the grant.

The Organizing Committee of the IGU Conference in Moscow received 450 applications for a grant. The most submissions were filed by representatives of India – 144 applications. Russians were slightly less active – they sent 108 requests. Besides it, requests were sent from China, Brazil, Romania and more than 40 other countries.

According to the decision of the Organizing Committee 50 scientists including 14 Russians receive grants aimed to cover the registration fee. It was approved four applications from the representatives of India, two participants from each of the countries: Bangladesh, Belarus and Indonesia. Also, the substantial part of grants was conferred to scientists from Africa and Latin America.

The Conference organizers are: International Geographical Union, Russian Geographical Society, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russian Academy of Sciences. Official sponsor is: Rosneft company. General information partners are: ITAR-TASS, My Planet TV channel, Live Planet TV channel, National geographic Russia magazine, Round the world magazine.
