Mountain Dynamics Launches SnowRanger 2010/11 GPS Ski Resort Maps for Europe and North America

  • Rating12345

Mountain Dynamics Inc has announced that its SnowRanger GPS ski resort maps will launch for 2010/11 with 22 new resort trail maps in North America and a comprehensive new set of piste maps of resorts in the French, Andorran and Spanish Pyrenees.

Mountain Dynamics Inc., the world’s leading developer of GPS maps and services for winter sports, has announced that its SnowRanger GPS ski resort maps will launch for 2010/11 with 22 new resort trail maps in North America and a comprehensive new set of piste maps of resorts in the French, Andorran and Spanish Pyrenees.

“This will be our sixth season of providing GPS maps and statistics services to skiers and snowboarders,” said Marcus Needham, President and CEO of Mountain Dynamics. “We’re in an unmatched position to build on our experience and industry connections with this coverage expansion.”

The North American additions are focused on the Alberta and British Columbia provinces of Canada and on the Eastern USA: Bellayre, NY; Big White, BC; Blue Mountain, PA; Boyne Highlands, MI; Boyne Mountain, MI; Cannon Mountain, NH; Eldora, CO; Fernie, BC; Gore, NY; Holiday Valley, NY; Hunter, NY; Marmot Basin, AL; Mount Sunapee, NH; Panorama, BC; Schweitzer, ID; Searchmont, ON; Silver Star, BC; Ski Sundown, CT; Sun Peaks, BC; Sunlight Mountain, CO; Waterville Valley, NH; and Windham, NY.

The new Pyrenean resorts in SnowRanger Europe are: Ax-3 Domaines, Cauterets, Font-Romeu Pyrenees 2000, Gourette, Grand Tourmalet, La Pierre Saint-Martin, Luchon-Superbagneres, Luz-Ardiden, Peyragudes, Piau-Engaly and Saint-Lary Soulon, France; Grandvalira and Vallnord, Andorra; and Baqueira-Beret, Spain.

SnowRanger ski maps offer spoken turn-by-turn directions while skiing, telling you which ski lifts to take and which runs/pistes to follow to get to a chosen destination. This can be essential, time saving information at large resorts such as Whistler Blackcomb, or in the large interlinked complexes in the Alps. The directions are shown on the screen of the GPS, and are also given as spoken prompts on models such as the Garmin® nüvi® series.

SnowRanger Europe now includes detailed piste maps of over 450 top resorts in Andorra, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland, and SnowRanger North America includes over 100 top resorts in the USA and Canada. SnowRanger maps are compatible with almost all current and recent Garmin and Magellan® GPS models, including Garmin’s nüvi personal navigators and their breakthrough Oregon and Dakota touchscreen handhelds.

SnowRanger for Garmin is available on a “plug and play” memory card, as an instant download, or on CD-ROM together with Garmin’s powerful MapSource software. This lets you view the maps on the big screen of a Windows® PC and plan your skiing ahead of time, and includes detailed elevation data so that you can see the vertical profile of a possible route.

“Being able to offer MapSource is a major advantage of being an official Garmin development partner,” adds Needham. Garmin recently announced “ski editions” of their popular Dakota™ 20 and Oregon™ 450 GPS receivers with included SnowRanger maps.
