German GIS Best Practice Award

The GIS Best Practice Award from the German DVW eV – Society for Geodesy, Geoinformation and Land Management will be awarded for GIS projects that are exemplary and serve as models and reference examples. The Award is expected to increase the publicity of these projects and knowledge transfer is anticipated to be promoted in the use and application of geographic information systems. 

The GIS Best Practice Award is presented annually at the DVW INTERGEO. The first award was in 2008 in Bremen. To participate in business, government and research institutions are encouraged. The award is associated with prize money totalling 5,000 €. In 2011, GIS projects from all provinces were approved, and the existing restriction on the INTERGEO region were lifted. The basis for the award is an application procedure for students who are not DVW-members, is now open. The results of a GIS project involve  demonstrations in the following criteria:

  • Technical Innovation
  • Economics (eg cost savings, revenue, …)
  • Social significance (eg, community information, support environmentally friendly practices, …)
  • Advancement of the profession
  • Development of new application fields
  • Special media coverage
