Firms Eye Up Ireland as Energy Product Base

A Chinese wind turbine maker and one of Europe’s biggest construction firms are considering setting up manufacturing plants in Ireland in order to develop offshore wind energy projects. XEMC, a state-owned Chinese firm, and Strabag, an Austrian/ German firm, are understood to be in discussions with IDA Ireland and the government about investment projects that could create hundreds of jobs. The two companies have already formed a consortium with Irish firm Gaelectric to build a demonstration wind energy project in the Irish Sea.
