International Satellite Project to Map North American Land Changes

The North American continent is constantly changing, and mounting environmental concerns like climate change, sustainability, and water resources make it more essential than ever to have an efficient and consistent approach to monitoring land cover and land cover change. That’s what the North American Land Change Monitoring System, or NALCMS, intends to provide. The system will depict information about land cover and land cover change at the continental scale, while also providing information for each country to complement existing country-specific monitoring programs. A product of international expertise, the project was established by government organizations within Canada, Mexico and the United States. The project is facilitated by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) and designed in part by the Canadian Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS) at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Read More
