OpenGeo and Farallon Geographics Announce Partnership

  • Rating12345

Farallon Geographics, a San Francisco GIS services firm and OpenGeo, a global leader in open source geospatial solutions, announced that Farallon Geographics has added the OpenGeo Suite Enterprise Edition to its product offerings and now provides support to local OpenGeo Suite users.

Farallon designs and implements GIS systems and location technology to support business functions, and is regarded as an expert in the integration of commercial GIS with open source technologies.  This specialized focus makes the company a logical partner for OpenGeo, known for its major contributions and leadership in the development of open source geospatial solutions.
Most recently, Farallon Geographics developed the Enterprise Addressing System, a centralized address database for use throughout a city’s government.  The platform is entirely open source, built with PostGIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers, and GeoDjango.  After EAS was deployed for San Francisco in January, the project became public.  Because only open source tools were used, Farallon was able to release code for the entire application to the non-profit Civic Commons.  Now it is freely available for use by other cities or government offices.
“Farallon demonstrates that open source technologies offer viable — and often preferable — alternatives to proprietary software,” commented OpenGeo President Chris Holmes. He added, “We are excited to partner with Farallon, and expect that they will deliver innovative solutions based on the OpenGeo Suite.”
