New Maps and Report Released on Magmatic-related Uranium Systems Potential

  • Rating12345

As part of the Onshore Energy Security Program, Geoscience Australia has released two new national-scale maps of the potential for magmatic-related uranium mineral systems. The first map, Potential for magmatic uranium systems in Australia Map 1: Intrusive-related, shows the potential for uranium systems associated with intrusive igneous rocks across the continent.

The second map, Potential for magmatic uranium systems in Australia Map 2: Volcanic-related, targets uranium systems genetically linked to volcanic rocks. Both maps utilise national data coverages, including whole rock geochemistry, as well as Geoscience Australia’;s 1:1 million Surface Geology of Australia ! and radiometric datasets.

The maps are accompanied by Geoscience Australia Record Potential for magmatic-related uranium mineral systems in Australia, which describes the methodology and results of the study. Together, the maps and report aim to identify igneous events and units which exhibit favourability for magmatic-related uranium mineral systems. Read More
