Worldwide Glacier Monitoring: A Report from the DigitalGlobe Analysis Center and Extreme Ice Survey

DigitalGlobe and Extreme Ice Survey (EIS) have partnered together to use on-the-ground photography and satellite imagery to monitor the state of the world’s glaciers. In this report, the first of its kind for both companies, we have collected recent satellite imagery from three of the world’s most renowned glaciers: Khumbu Glacier at Mt. Everest, the Ilulissat Glacier in Greenland and the Breidamerkurjökull Glacier in Iceland. Esteemed photographer, scientist and adventurer James Balog, director of the Extreme Ice Survey, and DigitalGlobe Vice President Stephen Wood reveal why glaciers may be our clearest indicator of the state of the environment.
