Woolpert, Magnolia River Geospatial Net $10M Coastal Mapping Project

  • Rating12345

KILN, Miss., May 10, 2016 — WMR-532, the joint venture of Woolpert and Magnolia River Geospatial, has been contracted to acquire bathymetric and topographic lidar and imagery, and to provide final data products to the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise (JALBTCX).

The one-year, $10 million capacity contract will support the coastal mapping and charting requirements of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO).

“WMR-532 staff will acquire lidar and imagery data of the nearshore environment,” Woolpert Project Director and Vice President John Gerhard said. “The projects normally involve data acquisition of the shallow water littoral zone, encompassing approximately 1,000 meters off shore and 500 meters on shore.”

This program also will support regional sediment management, construction operations and regulatory functions in the coastal zone for the National Coastal Mapping Program (NCMP).

“This data will address beach erosion and definition, the management of coastal hazards, maintaining coastal management, mapping and charting specifications, and will provide data to model hurricane surges, among other uses,” said Mark Brooks, Magnolia River Geospatial Chief Operating Officer.

“We are excited to now have a physical presence in Mississippi and be working even more closely with NAVO and the Corps on their mission,” said Jeff Lovin, Woolpert Senior Vice President and Director of Government Solutions.

WMR-532 is scheduled to start acquiring bathymetric and topographic lidar and imagery data later this month.
