Des Plaines, IL – The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), in partnership with its Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia Chapters, is pleased to share the details of GIS-Pro 2016: URISA’s 54th Annual Conference. The event will take place October 31-November 3 in Toronto, Ontario. The annual conference is a welcoming environment where the GIS Community shares innovative ideas and new approaches to be more effective and efficient at work.

On October 31, full and half-day workshops will be presented (one workshop is included with full conference registration):

  • GIS Capability Maturity Model
  • NG9-1-1 and the GIS Workflow
  • An Overview of Open Source GIS Software
  • Asset Management: Planning, Strategy and Implementation
  • GIS Program Management
  • GIS Supporting Community Resiliency
  • Cybersecurity Awareness for GIS Professionals
  • GISP Exam Preparation Workshop

We are pleased to welcome  Michael Hughes, ‘North America’s Networking Guru’, as our opening keynote speaker on November 1. He will discuss “The Power of Personal Contact: How to Turn 3 Minute Conversations Into Powerful, Productive and Profitable Relationships”, where we’ll learn how to mine and maximize every conference contact.

Breakout sessions are scheduled on November 1-3. Presentations will be delivered by more than 100 speakers. Each session is detailed online: https://gispro2016.sched.org/

In addition there will be luncheon presentations and posters, a Vendor Spark session and Lightning talks. Networking events from a Young Professionals’ Meetup to the Conference Social Event at the Hockey Hall of Fame will provide ample opportunities to expand your professional connections.

The annual URISA awards breakfast will honor GIS Hall of Fame inductees, Exemplary Systems in Government winners and volunteer superstars.

Companies in the exhibit hall will demonstrate their solutions and Esri’s Hands-On Learning Lab will provide self-directed training tutorials.

The conference will wrap up with Leslie Woo, Chief Planning Officer of Metrolinx, who will speak to the key issues that will shape the cities of the future and the leadership needed to creatively guide that future. She will draw from her professional and personal experiences on how strategic infrastructure planning is one of our best but riskiest future-proofing tools. Her closing comments will be followed by URISA’s Annual Business Meeting and the first Annual General Meeting of GeoAlliance Canada.

The conference venue is the Westin Harbour Castle on the shores of Lake Ontario. The hotel is accepting reservations in the URISA block until September 29 or until the block is filled.
