In this day of social media, traditional face-to-face meetings are few and far between. Needless to say, when they do happen, they are most often fruitful. When our Africa Office Director, Joe Njangiru, walked into the offices of the national mapping agencies of Uganda, he walked out with a set of 1:50,000 topographic maps from the Uganda Survey Department and a set of 1:250,000 geological maps from the Geological Survey of Uganda. The nationally produced 1:50,000 topographic maps of central and northwest Uganda are newly updated (2006) from the series first produced in the 1950’s.
