ScanEx RDC took part in the IX International special exhibition and the scientific congress “Interexpo GEO-Siberia”, organized and held by the Siberian State Geodesic Academy (SSGA) on April 24-26 in Novosibirsk. Russian and foreign specialists, who delivered scientific reports.
At the poster booth of ScanEx RDC the visitors could familiarize with new developments of the company, get consultations on using RS data in different thematic areas and the fresh issue of the “Earth from Space— the Most Effective Solutions” magazine.
At the first day of of the congress work on April 24 within the frames of the panel discussion “Geospace in social and economic discourse”, in which Novosibirsk Region Governor Vasily Yurchenko took part, the presentation was delivered by ScanEx’s General Director Vladimir Gershenzon, who told about the possibilities of using operational geospatial data for the dialog between the government and the civil society.
— To date, the situation in not quite simple in Russia, when there is no positive national idea, uniting the society and the government and keeping a single geospace in the country, related to improving the environmental conditions and control of illegal activities within the region. Modern geoinformation resources and programs, capable of harmonizing and supporting a construction dialog between the civil society and the power in the part of joint efforts in “green growth” of the economy are not applied in most federal constituents. Providing tools for processing of space images and integrating the required resources (a network of ground receiving stations, software, geoportals), we strive to attract the socially active community, who care about the future of the country. This will help to unite the efforts of government and civil society in addressing the complex problems in the field of nature conservation, improve the quality of life, monitoring and control of the territory of Russia and the harmonious development of society as a whole, — said Vladimir Gershenzon in his presentation.
Within the frames of the plenary session Complex Projects Area Manager of ScanEx Ilya Farutin spoke about the new possibilities, which became available on the Russian RS market. He presented the new generation constellation of satellites of Astrium company, which was recently replenished with a unique SPOT 6 space craft, taking high resolution images of the Earth within the 60 km swath width. The resulting imagery product’s GSD is 1.5 m.
Special interest of the “Interexpo GEO-Siberai” congress participants was aroused by the issues of introduction and plans for future development of the “Express. Kosmosnimki” service, providing an authorized remote access to satellite imagery data.
— “Express. Kosmosnimki” service is the first in Russia mechanism of “leasing” geospatial data. The price of access to satellite images is based on the subscription fees, which is 10% of actual commercial price of space data. In addition to basic cartographic materials (ortho-corrected images) both monitoring data and different thematic products can be provided in remote access via “Express. Kosmosnimki” service, for example, vegetation indices, interpretation results and satellite images analysis, different vector data, etc. This even more simplifies the process of getting the required information and reduces the time for it to reach the end customer. Thanks to the option of integration into third-party information systems (geoportals, websites, desktop applications) the “Express. Kosmosnimki” service ensures the development of new product sales markets, created based on geospatial data and enables to reduces their cost for system integrators, – explained Ilya Farutin.
The first International Conference of the ISPRS IV/2 “Global Geospatial Information” working group was also held within the frames of the scientific congress. The organizers of the conference were the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and the Siberian State Geodesy Academy (SSGA). The reporters were Gottfried Konecny (emeritus professor, honorary ISPRS member, Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany), Lawrie Jordan (Director of Imagery, ESRI, USA), Lena Halounova (ISPRS 2016 Congress Director, Chairperson of the Czech Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Czech Republic), Armin Grün (Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland) and many more.
Ilya Farutin during the conference shared experience of creating multi-scale coverages of the Russian territory with ortho-transformed satellite images. He also informed about the creation of the 0.5 m resolution coverage of the whole country within the frames of the state contract per Rosreestr (Federal Registration Service) request (see more in “Earth from Space — the Most Effective Solutions” magazine , issue №16). Conference participants also learnt about the establishment of a network infrastructure, providing access to satellite imagery data (both archived and new) directly from the end-user environment, which aroused genuine interest of the audience. Next meeting of the ISPRS working group on the above issue will take place during the Geospatial World Forum (on May 14-16, Rotterdam, Netherlands), where ScanEx specialists were also invited to make presentations.
On the first day of the congress on April 24 Thematic Department Head Andrei Sarychev held a workshop on possibilities of high-frequency satellite-based monitoring for agricultural purposes. Results of a project, carried out on the territory of the Novosibirsk Region were demonstrated during the workshop. Per this project a multi-temporal imagery of the territory was done using SPOT 5 satellite data and examples of interpretation of this data and their future application were shown. Demonstration of joint application of optical and radar data (based on RADARSAT-2 satellite images, received in quad-pol mode) in agriculture for regions with frequent clouds sparked great interest of the participants. Such algorithms are now being developed and tested by ScanEx specialists.
During the closing ceremony ScanEx RDC was awarded with the diploma of the “Interexpo GEO-Siberia-2013 Golden Medal” contest for the creation of the “Express. Kosmosnimki” service.
ScanEx RDC would like to extend thanks to the “Interexpo GEO-Siberia” congress organizers for high level of event preparation and is seeking further fruitful cooperation.
