Presentation of the Book “Earth from Space: Legislation, Regulation and Judicial Practice” will take place at the International Conference in October

On October 3, at the 6th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions the book “Earth from Space: legislation, regulation and judicial practice” will be presented. The presentation will be held in the Protocol Hall of the Moscow Region “Vatutinki” complex during the section “Remote Sensing Legislation” ( 14:30-16:00 Moscow time).

The book is written by a team of the “Legal Business Solution” law firm, constantly engaged in the practice of law in the field of Earth remote sensing, mapping, GIS and hydrometeorology.

The book reflects the realities of law enforcement work in the sector of Earth observation from space. For the first time a broad overview was prepared of not only the international instruments governing the remote sensing industry, but also an overview of current trends in the legislation of the world’s leading countries. A detailed analysis of U.S. law making, regulating the Earth observation imaging business is also performed in this book. Much attention is paid to the solution of practical problems associated with the production and use of Earth observation data, issues of copyrights on satellite imagery data and of nation security information handling are tackled as well in the book.

The author of the chapter “The practice of satellite images application. The role of satellite imagery technology in shaping and the development of a civil society” is the Director of ScanEx Research and Development Center Olga Gershenzon. Particular attention is focused on the system of public monitoring named “Space Watch” intended for operational monitoring of the environment and human activities applying space and geoinformation technologies.

The author of the chapter “Legislative work in the field of space activities and remote sensing of the Earth from space in Russia” is Ivan Moiseyev, Head of the Space Policy Institute, one of the authors of the Russian Law “On space activities”.

The 6th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions” will take place on October 1-3, 2013 at the Moscow Region “Vatutinki” resort hotel.  Key topics of the conference are: nature protection and access to space images and near real-time satellite-based monitoring services from civil society in Russia and abroad. Conference organizers are: ScanEx Research & Development Center, Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), NGO Transparent World and the Center for Information Technology Innovations.
