Ordnance Survey Staff Raise £9,000 for the Red & White Appeal

  • Rating12345

This week, Staff at Ordnance Survey presented Southampton Hospital Charity’s Red & White Appeal with a £9,000 donation, after 12 months of fundraising activities.

The Red & White Appeal aims to raise funds to create a specially designed, dedicated unit for haematology patients receiving day case or outpatient care. Ordnance Survey started a campaign in April 2012, to raise enough money for six new infusion pumps, at a cost of £1500 each, to deliver fluids to patients in a controlled manner. We hope our fundraising efforts over the coming year will enable us to purchase some (if not all) of these pumps.

Suzie Simmons, Fundraising Manager for The Red & White Appeal, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support the team at Ordnance Survey have given the appeal over the last year.  It is a fantastic achievement and has helped The Red & White Appeal reach its final goal, making the dedicated day unit for patients with Leukaemia and other life threatening blood cancers a reality later this year.”

Elaine Owen, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Ordnance Survey said: ‘Over the months, our staff have been engaged in a wide range of fundraising activities, including a bake–off competition, charity sky-dive, a lunch-time quiz, Christmas Fayre, an Easter Concert held by Ordnance Survey’s Off the Scale choir, and the ever popular cake sale. We are delighted that our donation is helping the Red & White Appeal reach its final goal, and that our staff’s fundraising efforts reached our target to raise enough money for six new infusion pumps.’

Elaine added: ‘‘Ordnance Survey has recently announced its corporate charity for 2013. We look forward to another successful 12 months of fundraising for this year’s corporate charity, the RNLI.  Being on the south coast, our staff will be raising funds for local lifeboat stations in the Solent region; Calshot, Lymington and Cowes.  The first event we are encouraging staff to participate in is the forthcoming Lymington Lifeboat 10K fun run which is taking place on Sunday.’
