Ordnance Survey Launches Competition to Find New Faces of Leisure

  • Rating12345

Ordnance Survey is inviting its map users to enter a competition to be a new face in its ‘Explore More’ marketing campaign for press advertising, online and in-store point of sale. The national mapping authority is asking people who enjoy outdoor activities, novice or enthusiast, to submit a photo of themselves, dressed for their favourite outdoor activity, teamed with 50 words explaining why they love using Ordnance Survey maps for their activity.

“We are very keen to hear real stories of exploration, discovery, friendship and achievement that will inspire other people to get outdoors; whether they use paper maps, our OS MapFinder app or OS getamap service, it’s a chance for real people to be involved in an exciting new campaign,” explained Karen McGrath, Consumer Marketing Manager at Ordnance Survey.

The campaign is already running with seven ‘faces’ each demonstrating a particular outdoor activity that Ordnance Survey customers might typically take part in, with the winners of the competition joining them in the campaign.

With high-quality close-up images of the faces, the ‘Explore More’ campaign will feature in consumer press advertising and as point of sale in 50 Go Outdoors stores with some other high-street chains expressing great excitement and enthusiasm at getting involved.

Ordnance Survey plans to select winners and invite them to a studio for a professional photo shoot, capturing their image dressed for their favourite outdoor activity, for potential use in advertising, online and possibly some retail outlets across the country.

“Winners will be photographed dressed for all seasons to give us plenty of images to use in the future; we’re looking for all kinds of outdoor activities, from dog walking, birdwatching, horse riding, hiking, mountain biking or more extreme pursuits, to really showcase the variety in how our products are used,” said Karen.

‘Explore More’ is in Go Outdoors stores now and the competition to be a face of Ordnance Survey runs from 29 July–13 September 2013.

To enter the competition, email your photo of you in action and 50 words explaining why you love using Ordnance Survey maps for your activity to thefaceofos@ordnancesurvey.co.uk.
