KADME has developed an interactive map for the Norwegian Oil Museum. The map will be officially unveiled at the European Oil & Gas archives and European Oil Museums conference on 26 May in Stavanger. The Norwegian Oil Museum provides information about technological advances and the way petroleum influences Norwegian society. In order to inform visitors about offshore infrastructure, the Interactive Petroleum Map allows users to learn about oil platforms in conjunction with fields, licenses, blocks, terrain and other relevant data. Users can overlay different themes of information to view an integrated picture of the offshore installations.
The map, which covers North Sea oil and gas data, will be available on the web and at the Museum. The Norwegian Oil Museum’s curator, Harald Tønnesen, explained that, “The Museum needed to create a system that would allow visitors and researchers access to the vast amounts of North Sea data. We decided that an interactive map, linking images, articles and other information, would bring the most value. Our ambition is that this map could be extended to cover all of Europe’s oil and gas infrastructure!” Gianluca Monachese, Director of business development at KADME, agrees.
“We combined our deep knowledge of GIS with our expertise in data management to give the Norwegian Oil Museum an interactive map that would meet their goals of providing a more comprehensive overview of Norway’s energy resources. We created interoperability between the data sources to allow users to view the data correlated on the map.” More information, including a screen shot and description: www.kadme.com/petroleummap To view the map online, please click on http://www.petroleumskartet.no.
