With a Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday, DES is pleased to announce our collaboration with Institute Sultan Iskandar, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia on research, consultancy and technology development for Urban Heat Island. This collaboration will study the effect of Urban Heat Island by developing different urban climate models using Satellite data and building models and combining these 2 data.
The resultant can be a framework or Urban model for a tropical environment. And this will be productized for commercial use. The successful framework can be shared with the material manufacturers such as pavement material, asphalt, urban forest, paint industry and other built material industries to develop right products to reduce Urban Heat Island phenomenon.
This MOU will represent our earnest effort towards the common objective of research, consultancy and technology development in field of sustainable built environment, combining information and inputs from Satellite Imagery, DTM and Building models. This effort is important for climatic change studies, carbon footprint, energy efficiency management and other related fields.
