Marine Ecological Surveys Ltd. To make the sharing of this information as straight forward as possible MES has purchased Publisher for ArcGIS to allow them to create GeoPDF files.
MES has completed projects for both Government departments (including the Department of Energy & Climate Change) and private organisations such as East Anglia Offshore Wind Ltd. which have provided vital information as to how development projects will affect the surrounding birdlife, mammals, fish and benthic organisms.
Nearly every aspect of MES’ work has a spatial component and using GeoPDF as their delivery file format means that MES clients can simply double click and view this important information in the free and ubiquitous Adobe Reader. Non-mapping experts can now easily turn layers of data on and off, click on links to detailed reports and photographs and add their own annotations to the maps without needing to load any software or receive any training.
Wendy Wilsher, Geophysics and GIS Practitioner for MES explained how the GeoPDF file format will support their work: “We anticipate that GeoPDF’s will be hugely beneficial for our clients. Instead of having to page through endless appendices for photographs of trawls, seafloor camera images, or sidescan screen images, these will be available to our clients by clicking on a selected area of the PDF output maps. Also, the alphanumeric data collected for each trawl, grab, or sidescan anomaly are available from the PDF rather than having to reference the appendices. ”
