MAPPS Elects New Board of Directors

Sunriver, Oregon, July 16, 2015 — MAPPS, the national association of private sector geospatial firms, announced today the slate of new officers and members of its 2015-2016 Board of Directors. 

Susan Marlow, GISP, Principal with Stantec (Nashville, TN), assumed the office of President of MAPPS. Marlow succeeds Jeff Lower, Executive Vice President, IIC Technologies Inc. For the past year, she served as President-Elect.

“MAPPS is about inclusion,” said Marlow. “We are a community where every firm contributes to the greater geospatial community. Together we make a difference. My goal is to welcome more members while strengthening the bonds of cooperation and team work among the member firms. MAPPS members do big things in the profession…and FOR the profession, and I look forward to helping to build and grow the community. ” 

Brian Raber, CMS, GLS, GISP, Vice President of Merrick & Company (Greenwood Village, CO), was elected to the position of President-Elect and will succeed to the office of President in 2016. Raber has served as Chair of the Membership Task Force and the International Exporting Conference, is a member of the Legislative Affairs Committee, and chaired the 2014 Geospatial and Engineering Conference.

Mitch Long, CP, PLS, GISP, of GRW Aerial Services, Inc. (Lexington, KY) and Chris Ogier, CP, Regional Manager for the Spicer Group (Atlanta, GA), won re-election as directors on the MAPPS Board.

Joseph Seppi, CMS, PMP, Practice Leader with Woolpert (Arlington, VA); Mark Brooks, Vice President of Magnolia River (Huntsville, AL); Kelly Francis, CP, PMP, President of Aero-Graphics (Salt Lake City, UT); and Thomas Newman, C.H., PLS, President and CEO of TerraSond (Palmer, AK), joined the Board as Directors.

Also serving on the MAPPS Board are Robert Hanson, Senior Vice President of Michael Baker International (Harrisburg, PA) and George Southard, Director of Programs with Trimble (Westminster, CO).   

The vote of new directors by the MAPPS membership was held during the association’s annual business meeting July 14 at the MAPPS Summer Conference at The Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon.

Formed in 1982, MAPPS is the only national association exclusively comprised of private firms in the remote sensing, spatial data and geographic information systems field in the United States. The MAPPS membership spans the entire spectrum of the geospatial community, including Member Firms engaged in satellite and airborne remote sensing, surveying, photogrammetry, aerial photography, LIDAR, hydrography, bathymetry, charting, aerial and satellite image processing, GPS, and GIS data collection and conversion services. MAPPS also includes Associate Member Firms, which are companies that provide hardware, software, products and services to the geospatial profession in the United States and other firms from around the world. Independent Consultant Members are sole proprietors engaged in consulting in or to the geospatial profession, or provides a consulting service of interest to the geospatial profession.
