Map of the Month: GfK Purchasing Power in Germany, Austria and Switzerland 2021

  • Rating12345

GfK’s Map of the Month for April shows the regional distribution of purchasing power in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2021.

With an average per capita purchasing power of €40,739, Swiss will have significantly more money available for spending and saving in 2021 than Austrians (€24,232) and Germans (€23,637). However, GfK’s new 2021 purchasing power studies show that there are also significant regional differences in terms of net disposable income within the respective countries.

In Switzerland, the district of Höfe takes first place by far. Residents there have an average per capita purchasing power of €89,317, which is almost three times the money available in the district with the lowest purchasing power, Entlebuch (€29,850). Among Austrians, Vienna’s first district (inner city) leads the way with a per capita purchasing power of €40,187, while Vienna’s 20th district (Brigittenau) brings up the rear with €18,102 per inhabitant. The purchasing power gap widens least in Germany: with a per capita purchasing power of €33,363, Starnberg tops the ranking of German districts; last place goes to Gelsenkirchen with a net disposable income of €18,817 per inhabitant.
