Logan Simpson Deploys TerraGo Edge GPS Data Collection for Environmental Planning

  • Rating12345

May 22, 2015 — Logan Simpson, a leading environmental planning and cultural resource firm, is deploying TerraGo Edge for mobile GPS data collection and enhanced navigation utilizing smartphones and cellular-enabled tablets.

Prior to TerraGo Edge, survey teams typically used a combination of GPS handheld devices, tablet-based forms, paper forms, and manual data entry to complete fieldwork efforts—many of which occur in remote geographies and rugged terrains.

According to Craig Johnson, Environmental Group Manager at Logan Simpson, “TerraGo Edge opens up the possibility for our field teams to fully integrate data collection and mapping, while allowing us to navigate easily when working beyond the reach of cellular service.  It also provides the level of precision that our teams need at a reasonable cost, with the added benefit of being able to monitor the safety of staff working in remote areas.”  He adds, “One of the great things about TerraGo Edge is the flexibility to customize the data collection processes for our wide variety of project types—which have drastically different input, precision and workflow requirements.  And because it’s an open cloud-based system, we can further reduce the risk of data loss due to potential device failure.”

Logan Simpson is in the process of deploying TerraGo Edge for a number of projects, including cultural resource surveys, and scenic resource inventories and impact studies for large scale infrastructure projects.  This software enables them to collect data that can subsequently be analyzed to assess levels of potential environmental impact, as well as compliance with environmental regulations and management objectives.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with Logan Simpson and contribute to their important mission and cutting edge work,” says John Timar, Vice President, Worldwide Sales, TerraGo. “TerraGo Edge continues to gain adoption among leading firms that see the clear cost and productivity benefits of using a modern, mobile solution for GPS-based data collection and collaboration.”
