Learn to Work with Oceanic and Atmospheric Scientific Data in Esri ArcGIS 10.1

Professionals in the oceanic and atmospheric communities often use the popular file format called the Network Common Data Form (netCDF) to create, manage, store, and distribute scientific data. Esri ArcGIS 10.1 works with this file format, reading and writing data that’s stored in netCDF and letting scientists and researchers integrate data related to temperature, precipitation, wind speed, and ocean currents into analysis workflows.

To familiarize you with the Esri ArcGIS Multidimension tools that do this, tune in to the free Esri live training seminar Working with netCDF Data in ArcGIS 10.1 on November 15, 2012.

The presenters will explain how to create rasters, features, and tables from multidimensional data. They also will demonstrate the techniques to use to visualize the data. You will see geographic information system (GIS) workflows that incorporate large collections of netCDF data, such as the process of delineating climate zones and calculating surface temperature variability.

After viewing this seminar, you will understand how to do the following:

  • Visualize multidimensional data as raster and feature layers and tables
  • Create time animations and graphs of multidimensional data
  • Incorporate multidimensional data into larger GIS-based workflows

The seminar will be valuable to GIS professionals and scientists who analyze climate data and/or work with data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to model change in the ocean. The seminar also will be worthwhile for GIS analysts and emergency managers who incorporate weather forecasts into their GIS models.
