The INTERGEO leading conference trade fair for geodesy, geoinformation and land management is to return to the German capital for its 20th anniversary. Surrounded by the heady mix of politics, organisations and media found there, INTERGEO is turning its attention first and foremost to those questions thrown up by the increasing digitisation of modern infrastructures. Both urban and rural areas can benefit from intelligent geoinformation solutions in this respect.
Under the slogan “Knowledge and action for planet Earth”, the trade fair and conference bring together the key industry trends, discuss the rapid developments in an increasingly digital world and present the whole breadth of innovations. These include advances in satellite-based Earth observation and mobile geo-based applications.
In its specialist contributions and panel discussions, the conference will deal with the important and complex issue of handling data and its intelligent assessment, evaluation and publication.
“The trade fair site in Berlin, with its halls and outstanding conference facilities, provides more than just the perfect setting for this international specialist event. The political character of the capital will make INTERGEO 2014 a very special experience in its anniversary year, and will significantly boost communication and interaction in the course of the trade fair,” says Olaf Freier, Managing Director of HINTE GmbH, which organises the trade fair for the DVW – the German Society for Geodesy, Geoinformation and Land Management (DVW e.V.).
Communication and interaction are also at the heart of two conference events that form part of INTERGEO. The 3rd national INSPIRE Conference this year has taken the slogan “Geoinformation as the key to the social challenges of the 21st century”. This is supported by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI).
“GI expertise made in Europe” is the topic of the imaGIne-2 conference, being held in parallel with INTERGEO for the first time. It is hosted by the European Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information (EUROGI), with the support of its member organisation the German Umbrella Organisation for Geoinformation (DDGI).
Encouraging the next generation is also writ large in this anniversary year. The innovative “JobSHAKER” recruiting format will once again bring interested schoolchildren, students and career starters together with potential employers in a relaxed setting.
The international “Studentsmeeting”, organised by the Council of European Geodetic Surveyors (CLGE) and the DVW e.V., will also provide young talent with a fitting platform for dialogue and discussion.
Young entrepreneurs and start-ups can also receive funding to participate in fairs from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). This will cover 70 percent of the costs of participating in the trade fair, while an attractive joint stand provides an impressive stage for presenting product innovations.
As host, DVW e.V. is expecting around 17,000 visitors and 1,500 conference participants to come to INTERGEO from all over the world. INTERGEO’s pioneering role and attractiveness can also be seen in the positive response from exhibitors. “Some 60 percent of the exhibition space occupied last year has already been reserved,” says Daniel Katzer, head of department and project manager for the INTERGEO trade fair at HINTE GmbH. “It pays to be quick! The six halls available in Berlin will soon fill up,” Katzer continues.
