Global Weather Corporation Named Most Accurate Temperature Forecast Provider in the World

  • Rating12345

BOULDER, Colo., September 3, 2015 – Global Weather Corporation (GWC) has been identified as the most accurate temperature forecast of 2014 for the U.S., Europe and Asia in a recent study by ForecastWatch, an independent analyst of industry performance. The study compared the accuracy of daily high temperature forecasts among the leading providers of weather forecasting. Results were determined for three regions (U.S., Europe, Asia) and four forecast periods (1-3, 4-6, 7-9 days in advance as well as a summary for all days 1-9).

GWC ranked first in all four categories for all three regions. This is GWC’s second year in a row to be identified the most accurate forecast by ForecastWatch.com.

The ForecastWatch study evaluated nearly 24 million high temperature forecasts for 954 locations around the globe from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014, comparing them to observation data that was quality-controlled by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). Nine of the leading weather forecast providers including Weather Underground, The Weather Channel, and Europe’s largest weather provider MeteoGroup were evaluated in the study. This is the second year in which GWC participated in the study. GWC has received the top ranking in both years.

“This study is further confirmation of GWC’s commitment to our customers to provide a more accurate weather forecast,” said Dr. Bill Gail, GWC’s chief technology officer and 2014 president of the American Meteorological Society (AMS). “Like a human meteorologist, our technology continues to learn, constantly improving our forecasts by leveraging the advances of traditional and non-traditional weather observation systems throughout the world. This capability ensures that our forecasts are always improving, so they meet the growing demands of our connected world.”

GWC serves enterprise customers that touch consumers with devices and applications that are weather-dependent, such as mobile phones, connected vehicles, and smart home systems. All of these require consistently reliable and accurate forecasts. GWC’s customers are businesses that demand accuracy and hyper-local precision, such as Yahoo! (the industry standard for compelling mobile weather applications), and Xcel Energy (the #1 wind energy producer in the U.S.). Whether it’s a near-term forecast every 5 minutes or an hourly forecast out to 15 days, GWC delivers the most accurate forecast for any location on earth.
