Global Mapper SDK v17.2 Released with New and Improved Functionality for Software Developers

  • Rating12345

Hallowell, Maine – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of version 17.2 of the Global Mapper Software Development Kit (SDK) along with the Global Mapper LiDAR Module SDK. The latest upgrade to this powerful developer’s toolkit comes shortly after the latest release of the standard version of Global Mapper and incorporates many of the same functional enhancements and performance improvements.

Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization, and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

Global Mapper is an affordable and easy-to-use GIS application capable of displaying, converting, and analyzing virtually any type of geospatial data. Reflecting the increased use and availability of 3D data, recent Global Mapper developments have focused on working with both raster and vector 3D data with a particular emphasis on LiDAR and point cloud processing. The Global Mapper SDK provides software developers with a toolkit for accessing much of this functionality from within an existing or custom-built application. The SDK also enables the creation of custom toolbars and extensions to enhance the data processing and analysis functionality of the standard version of Global Mapper. This capability allows in-house developers to create a unique version of the software to meet their specific needs and requirements.

The version 17.2 release of the SDK is further evidence of Blue Marble’s ambitious and customer-focused development strategy, with most of the new and improved functionality directly attributable to the company’s continual interaction with users. New in the latest release is support for pan sharpening color imagery using higher resolution panchromatic (grayscale) imagery. This raster enhancement process increases the spatial resolution of the data providing a superior product for imagery analysis. Version 17.2 of the SDK also sees a dramatic improvement in the export speed when generating raster tiles as well as faster import and rendering of many text-based formats, including ASCII point cloud files. When generating Global Mapper Package files, an option has been added to save imagery in JPEG 2000 format resulting in significantly smaller file sizes.

“The incorporation of Global Mapper’s core spatial data processing and display engine into third party applications is helping redefine the mechanism for deploying of GIS technology.” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “No longer constrained by off-the-shelf software, companies and organizations are able to build solutions that are specifically tailored to their requirements. With each release, the functionality and performance of the Global Mapper SDK is improved, resulting in more powerful and efficient custom applications.”
