GIS Centre of Excellence Chooses MrSID

  • Rating12345

The GIS Centre of Excellence within the Office of Agriculture and Geoinformation (ALG) in Switzerland has recently purchased GeoExpress 8 through German reseller, GAF AG. The Centre is an agency of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and employs around forty people to manage the agriculture and environmental resources of the region. This work involves the use of a large amount of high quality aerial photograph and to overcome the storage and access problems that these large file sizes create, the agency will now convert their images to MrSID.

LizardTech has recently released the latest version of their flagship image compression and preparation software; GeoExpress 8. This new product introduces a new version of the MrSID format; MG4 which not only allows users to compress a huge range of raster formats to the industry standard compression format but also LiDAR data clouds can now be compressed. Alistair Maclenan of LizardTech’s sales and marketing agency, Quarry One Eleven said of the sale “Unsurprisingly in the current climate we are seeing a huge number of companies looking to squeeze more value from their data. By compressing their imagery and making it not only simpler to store but faster to access and share, the ALG are doing just that.” To learn more about the Express Suite of products or to download a trial version of GeoExpress please visit the LizardTech website: www.lizardtech.com
