GeoComm Completes GIS Data Assessment and Improvement Project for Monterey County, California

St. Cloud, MN: GeoComm is pleased to have recently completed a GIS data assessment and improvement project for Monterey County, California. During the three months it took to complete this project, GeoComm completed numerous updates to Monterey County Emergency Communications existing GIS layers.
Monterey County recognized that their GIS data was outdated about a year before they implemented their new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Following the release of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) data synchronization standards, Monterey County hired GeoComm to conduct a strategic assessment of their GIS data. Since they had not selected a CAD vendor yet they knew at a minimum this would ensure their GIS data could be measured to meet most mandatory CAD standards. Thus, ensuring that the CAD system would be installed with a complete and accurate public-safety GIS dataset.
To begin the project, GeoComm completed a GIS data assessment for the Road and Boundary Layers. Once assessed, inconsistencies in the GIS data were identified, improved and synchronized with the Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) and Automatic Location Information (ALI) database.
In addition, the existing layers were improved to meet the GIS data schema requirements outlined in Monterey County’s new TriTech Inform CAD system and any additional GIS data layers that were required for the CAD system were also developed utilizing Monterey County’s existing resources.
Throughout the GIS data improvement and development portions, GeoComm completed several in-depth project quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) steps to ensure the final map data deliverables were accurate and complete, ensuring the highest quality of GIS data layers were being delivered to Monterey County.
The GIS data assessment and improvement project was completed in September 2016. GeoComm will now begin an additional contract with Monterey County, that consists of synchronizing the Address Point Layer with the MSAG and ALI Database as well as improving it to meet TriTech’s Inform CAD system requirements.

Monterey County, California is located on the Pacific coast and home to over 430,000 residents. The GIS data layers, as part of TriTech’s Inform CAD system will be utilized at the Monterey County’s 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch Center. The dispatch center answers more than 600,000 calls and initiates emergency responses to more than 125,000 incidents every year.
