BOULDER, Colo., June 1, 2015 — The Department of Interior (DOI) has awarded Exelis (NYSE: XLS) Visual Information Solutions (Exelis VIS) a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to acquire ENVI software and maintenance.
The agreement provides value pricing to the DOI and affiliated agencies and offices, as well as pre-negotiated terms and conditions for purchasing the ENVI software. ENVI is the industry-leading remote sensing analytical software currently used at the DOI, other government, as well as military, academic and private industry organizations.
“ENVI is used extensively at the DOI to monitor climate, energy production, critical habitats and recreational areas,” said Stuart Blundell, general manager and director of sales at Exelis VIS. “Exelis is committed to making the process of accessing and maintaining the ENVI software stack at the DOI more streamlined and efficient.”
ENVI is the flagship image analysis software product offer by Exelis. It has been used for more than 25 years to extract meaningful information from geospatial data to help make better decisions about mineral exploration, precision agriculture, environmental degradation, national defense and more. The DOI currently uses ENVI to access, visualize and analyze landsat imagery — a critical earth observation program operated by the United States Geologic Survey (USGS). Spectroscopic analysis of minerals by the USGS; analysis and product generation of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) by the National Park Service; and monitoring energy production land use by the Bureau of Land Management are other ways the DOI uses ENVI software.
The BPA is in place for one year with an option to renew for the following four years.
