April 20, 2015 — EuroGeographics has named Cadastral Surveying expert Daniel Steudler as the new Chair of its Cadastre and Land Registry Knowledge Exchange Network (C&LR KEN).

Dr Steudler, who holds a PhD degree from the University of Melbourne, Australia, is a scientific associate at the Swiss Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo), working for the Federal Directorate for Cadastral Surveying.

As well as an active member of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), he is well known as a conference speaker whose work has been widely published. Dr Steudler also has extensive international experience consulting for land administration and cadastral projects in Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Kosovo.

He was previously Vice Chair of the C&LR KEN and succeeds Julius Ernst from Austria’s Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying.

EuroGeographics Executive Director and Secretary General, Dave Lovell OBE said: “We are extremely fortunate to count so many world leading experts among our membership and Daniel and Julius are no exception. Both are well respected professionals whose insight and leadership is vital in cementing our members’ reputation for excellence.”

“In common with many of their colleagues in the C&LR KEN, they have contributed significantly to the UN Economic Commission for Europe Working Party for Land Administration (UN ECE WPLA).”

“We look forward to supporting Daniel as he leads our collaboration with the EU Permanent Committee on Cadastre (PCC), the European Land Registry Association (ELRA),  the European Land Information Service (EULIS) and the Council of European Geodetic Surveyors (CLGE) to establish a common vision for cooperation on cadastre and land registry.”

Commenting on his new role as C&LR Chair, Dr Steudler said: “More than half of EuroGeographics’ members focus on property rights and registration but changing technology means that Cadastre is becoming ever more dynamic as a result of crowd sourcing and real-time reporting. My mission is to ensure that the C&LR KEN continues to provide a valuable forum for sharing best practice as well as reflecting these emerging trends.”

“Members’ activities are an integral part of both national and international spatial data infrastructures and a vital component of the European Location Framework, forming the backbone of land administration and the property market. As a result they play a crucial role in providing dependable, accurate land and property information, facilitating a vibrant and transparent property market for individuals and investors and upholding the rights of citizens across Europe to have their assets securely registered.”

EuroGeographics’ KENs provide an open forum for its members and invited experts. Each focuses on an area of particular interest for National Mapping, Land Registry and Cadastral Authorities. These include Business Interoperability, Quality, Positioning and the INSPIRE Directive.
