Esri Provides Quick and Easy Access to Census 2010 Data

  • Rating12345

Today, Esri released the second portion of its Census 2010 data that combines the PL94-171 file and variables from Summary File 1 (SF-1) into a single database. Demographic categories include population, age, race and ethnicity, household type, household size, family, housing, and mortgage status.

For more precise, custom analysis, Esri delivers the data in geographies not provided by the Census Bureau, including ZIP Codes and user-defined areas such as rings, drive times, and hand-drawn shapes. The data is also available in standard census geographies such as states, counties, census tracts, and block groups.

“With drop-down menus and a location-centric approach, Esri makes it easy for me to immediately access the exact census data I need,” says Diana McCarthy, GIS specialist, City of Fullerton, California. “I don’t have to dig through multiple tables and geographies or reformat data, which saves me time.”

Esri’s Census 2010 data is available through the Esri Business Analyst product suite and Community Analyst or can be used as a stand-alone database at esri.com/census2010data.

“Downloading and formatting the Census 2010 data can be time-consuming and cumbersome. Esri has eliminated the need for clients to perform this task themselves by providing the Census 2010 data in easy-to-use formats,” says Catherine Spisszak, Esri data product manager. “This release of Esri’s Census 2010 data in a variety of formats and geographies, including ZIP Codes, is an example of Esri’s ongoing commitment to providing the most accurate and useful data in the most timely manner.”
