The Esri Canada User Conferences, which are among the country’s most important annual events for the geospatial community, will start on Tuesday, September 18, in Regina, Saskatchewan. The conferences will be held in eight cities across Canada this fall and will continue through spring 2013. The events will focus on The Power of Where, which highlights the value of geographic intelligence enabled by geographic information system (GIS) technology in helping us to better understand our world and resolve complex problems.
The conferences will feature numerous compelling presentations including:
• A keynote presentation by Esri Canada President Alex Miller, who will share the most recent advancements in GIS technology, from the desktop to the cloud, as well as the latest trends in mapping applications that will leave you with ideas for improving decision-making and increasing productivity in your own organization.
• Select user presentations by business, government and educational institutions that will impart best practices for using geospatial solutions to efficiently collect, manage, visualize, analyze and interpret data. Get inspired by real examples from both small and large organizations using GIS to do more with less. Learn how to apply geography to sustainably design communities and effectively balance development with natural resource conservation.
• Technical sessions led by Esri Canada solution experts that will help sharpen your skills in using various technologies including 3D, imagery, social media, mobile and cloud GIS to improve your mapping applications.
Attendees can also explore the latest Esri-based software and services from Esri Canada and business partners at the Solutions Expo. A number of outstanding geospatial projects that have delivered significant benefits to the community will also be celebrated with the Esri Canada Awards of Excellence in GIS.
More than 3,000 geospatial enthusiasts attend the Esri Canada User Conferences every year. Judi Lauer-Zahara, GIS Technician for the Geomatics Department of the City of Abbotsford, who has attended the event for the past 16 years, says: “These conferences continuously improve. I find them very useful for keeping abreast of what’s coming and how the GIS field is moving forward.”
