ENEL Green Power Expanding Operations Costa Rica

Construction has begun on a new hydroelectric plant in Costa Rica, between the provinces of Alajuela and San José.   The new plant, named Chucas, will have an installed capacity of 50 MW, and once fully up and running, will generate around 219 million kWh/year, equal to the annual consumption of over 81 thousand households and avoiding the emission of over 150 thousand metric tons of CO into the atmosphere each year.  Enel Green Power, the Enel Group company that focuses on renewable energy, expects to complete the plant by mid-2013, which will raise the company’s installed capacity in Costa Rica to 105 MW.  Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel Green Power, said: “This second plant, coming after the Palo Viejo hydroelectric plant in Guatemala, which is currently under construction, is a tangible sign of Enel Green Power’s growth in Latin America and in hydroelectric technology, which is one of the pillars of growth on this continent.” Read More
