EFI’s Winter and Summer School 2011

  • Rating12345

EFI’s Winter and Summer School 2011: Making values work – exploring multiple perspectives in understanding the valuation of forest ecosystems will be organized in late March 2011 in Freiburg, Germany and in late September 2011 in Croatia.

EFI’s Winter and Summer School model (WSS) of graduate education aims at creating collaborative research networks on topics of high relevance for forests and environment at the European scale. Engaging doctoral students is central to supporting EFI’s mission to strengthen and mobilize European forest research and expertise to address policy-relevant needs. Graduate students will take part in both the Winter as well as the Summer school.

The topic of ‘forest profitability’ and the questions ‘what is forest profitability, how do we measure it, and how do we improve the economic situation in Europe’s forests?’ are of great interest theoretically and in practice in Europe and around the world. Drawing from various disciplinary perspectives, the course will explore these questions in depth from the viewpoints of theory, methods and practical applications. Researchers and practitioners from different theoretical and practical perspectives will join with the doctoral students in exploring these questions.

The WSS is the kick off for a Concerted Action on profitability led by EFI.
