Dr. Shawana Johnson to Present at GEOINT 2022 Innovative Tradecraft Competition Finals and Provide Training in Two ALL-INT Workshops

  • Rating12345

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dr. Shawana Johnson, GISP, President of Global Marketing Insights, will be among four finalists presenting on the Main Stage in the Innovative Tradecraft Competition at GEOINT 2022 in Colorado. Dr. Johnson will also be on a team of experts presenting a two-part GEOINT workshop on autonomous target sensing using ALL-INT data fusion at planetary scale with hands on training.

The Tradecraft Competition Finals and the Training Workshops are open to all attendees of GEOINT 2022, although the workshops require advance registration. GEOINT 2022 is being held April 24-27 at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Aurora, Colorado.

Dr. Johnson will present Global 5G Chinese Domination: Reducing the Communication Network ‘Attack Surface’ Universally in the Innovative Tradecraft Competition at 9:45 – 10:30 am Tuesday, April 26, on the GEOINT Main Stage where she will introduce unique ways to secure network data with a DOD network partner, SCATR, while providing GEOINT precise analytics with open-source data.

The Competition is sponsored by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) for members to demonstrate innovative GEOINT solutions addressing mission problems through visualization, discovering needles in needle stacks, data sharing, and interoperability.

The winning Tradecraft solution will be determined by audience vote, and the winner will be announced by 12:45 pm that day as well.

Throughout GEOINT 2022, Dr. Johnson will participate with a team of trainers in conducting ALL-INT workshops. The two sessions will instruct attendees how to apply machine learning (ML)-based analytics and multimodal ALL-INT data fusion techniques on a cloud platform for autonomous detection and visualization of targets across the integrated battlespace at a planetary scale.

The workshop is designed for anyone in the geospatial data science and analytics pipeline – from managers and team leaders to algorithm modelers and analysts. These sessions are open to students and will include discussions of ALL-INT career pathways for GEOINT workforce development.

Advanced registration for each session is required (with a small USGIF attendance fee). Participants should attend both workshops due to the sequential organization of the presentations and bring laptops to Session 2.

Session 1 – Tuesday, April 26, 7:30-8:30 am (Workshop ID #143)

“Autonomous Sensing of Targets with ALL-INT Fusion Capabilities for Immediate Workforce Engagement”

Session 2 – Tuesday, April 26, 2:00-3:00 pm (Workshop ID #153)

“Hands-On Guided Training for Autonomous Sensing of Targets with ALL-INT Fusion Basics on a Planetary-Scale Cloud-Based Platform”

“In the era of expanding 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in which attack surfaces have greatly expanded, GEOINT professionals face the challenge of tracking threats across an integrated battlespace,” said Dr. Johnson. “Producing actionable information in this environment requires fusion and analysis of ALL-INT data sets – optical and SAR satellite imagery, as well as SATCOM network data.”

One of three speakers in these workshops, Dr. Johnson will provide an overview of commercial Earth observation data sets, 5G impacts on wide area networks, equipment and services on, expanded “attack surfaces,” and the threat of “near-peer” adversaries.

The two workshops, especially the hands-on session, will give attendees cloud-based Internet access to multi-INT models using Python libraries and a powerful cloud-native infrastructure via a commercial platform. In the combined sessions, attendees – regardless of existing geospatial knowledge – will gain the following:

• An understanding of commercial Earth observation data sets and 5G and IoT potential attack surfaces,

• Knowledge of basic tools for data exploration and machine learning on planetary-scale architecture,

• An understanding of the trade-offs in building models for global-scale analysis,

• Hands-on experience building, training, and deploying ML techniques on static objects to develop target and tracking indicators,

• How to apply existing GEOINT Tradecraft to the world of ML, Computer Vision, and High-Performance Computing in the Cloud.

• Insights into GEOINT career pathways related to ML, ALL-INT, and computational sciences.

These GEOINT 2022 training sessions require advance registration at https://usgif.org/symposium-training/. Space is limited.
