DigitalGlobe Releases First High-Resolution Image from WorldView-4 Satellite

WESTMINSTER, Colo. – DigitalGlobe, Inc. (NYSE: DGI), the global leader in earth imagery and information about our changing planet, today released the first public image from the recently launched WorldView-4 satellite, showcasing a level of clarity and information content that is unique to DigitalGlobe commercial imagery.

WorldView-4 features industry-leading resolution and location accuracy, which together unlock valuable information that enables critical decisions to be made with confidence. As part of the world’s most capable commercial imaging satellite constellation, WorldView-4 enhances global security and transparency, powers location-enabled applications and mapping services, supports the rapid response to global humanitarian crises, and much more.

WorldView-4 will more than double DigitalGlobe’s capacity to globally collect the world’s highest-resolution 30 cm commercial satellite imagery, allowing the company to satisfy growing demand for high-resolution imagery. WorldView-4 will also accelerate the growth of DigitalGlobe’s 16-year, time-lapse image library. The satellite was built by Lockheed Martin, and its imaging payload was developed by Harris Corp. It was carried to orbit on November 11, 2016 by a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket that was provided by Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services.

The first image was taken on November 26 and shows the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Shibuya, Tokyo, which was built to host Olympic events in 1964 and will again host international competitions when the games return to Tokyo in Summer 2020.
