Crowd Gathers in Ukraine to Experience ERDAS 2011 Software

  • Rating12345

ERDAS announces that the recent ERDAS Day in Kyiv, Ukraine was a phenomenal success. ERDAS, Hewlett-Packard and satellite data vendor TVIS-INFO co-sponsored the event, which attracted 200 remote sensing and image processing specialists from the Ukraine, making it the largest ERDAS event in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

“The ERDAS 2011 Software Release streamlines the most powerful tools in the geospatial business for remote sensing, image processing and analysis, and image management and delivery, enabling users to complete complex tasks in less time than ever before. As we present this release, it has been extremely gratifying to see users in this region and throughout the world respond with such enthusiasm,” said Martin Ehrhardt, EMEA Vice President, ERDAS. At the event, presenters introduced attendees to the ERDAS® 2011 Software Release, including portfolio-wide changes such as the ability to localize ERDAS products for a global audience, integrated support for Microsoft Bing™ Maps base imagery and map data, distributed processing throughout the desktop offerings, and a new product, ERDAS Engine. ERDAS Engine is a simple, cost-effective solution that boosts processing power for ERDAS IMAGINE and LPS, leveraging existing hardware resources for increased production needs or situations requiring faster production output.

Presenters also introduced users to the new 2011 changes in ERDAS IMAGINE®, LPS, ERDAS APOLLO and other leading desktop and server products.

ERDAS IMAGINE integrates many solutions in one, incorporating geospatial image processing and analysis, remote sensing and GIS. This latest release features new tools and an enhanced interface designed for quick and easy creation of presentation products for the defense and intelligence community. The streamlined imagery analysis workflows include improved text editing, inset views, new templates with elements that automatically update based on metadata from inserted imagery, and the ability to export to Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, or JPEG with a single click.

ERDAS IMAGINE 2011 also integrates with other popular geospatial products for an enhanced user experience. Users can link imagery shown in ERDAS IMAGINE viewers to Google Earth to easily see the global context of their imagery. Bing Maps for ERDAS IMAGINE provides access to rich, high-quality base imagery and geo-coding services provided by the Microsoft Bing Maps platform. Many of the tools in ERDAS IMAGINE are integrated with these base maps, making it easy to measure distance, perform change detection and other types of analytics.

LPS is a powerful, workflow-oriented photogrammetry system for production mapping, including full analytical triangulation, the generation of digital terrain models, orthophoto production, mosaicking, and 3D feature extraction. A key theme for LPS 2011 is distributed processing, which enables users to leverage multi-core CPUs and multiple networked servers to increase production throughput and accelerate processes that have been extremely time-intensive until now. In addition, LPS 2011 enables generation of orthos for a specific area of imagery defined by a shape file or AOI. LPS eATE is an add-on product that enables users to generate high-resolution terrain information from stereo imagery, ensuring speed and accuracy, providing an unparalleled environment for processing terrain data. For this release, LPS eATE adds the ability to distribute the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) merging process to the existing ability to distribute terrain extraction, further reducing overall processing time.

ERDAS APOLLO is the market leading geospatial solution for managing and serving imagery, consistently delivering virtually any digital object in an enterprise faster and with less hardware than competing server-based products. An interoperable OGC/ISO based solution, ERDAS APOLLO integrates easily with other geospatial software and offers unparalleled performance even when handling massive data archives and many users. ERDAS APOLLO 2011 introduces clustering, in which multiple servers work in concert to fulfill data searches and requests, increasing the number of supportable users. ERDAS APOLLO 2011 now also provides support for the OGC-specified Web Map Tiling Service (WMTS), cataloging and serving LIDAR (LAS) files, editing metadata for multiple datasets at once, and instantaneous propagation of metadata changes through the data hierarchy. Presenters also showcased ERDAS APOLLO on the Cloud, a unique offering that provides all of the comprehensive data management and delivery power of ERDAS APOLLO Professional as an all-inclusive, affordable, monthly subscription service. This fully-loaded package includes everything you need to run your solution on the cloud, including your software license, computing infrastructure, storage and bandwidth.
