The total number of fires to date this season is 6093, about 15% greater than the 10-year average of 5231. The area burned to date is currently estimated at 2,626,577 hectares, nearly twice the 10-year average of 1,352,867 hectares. In the last week, 410,791 hectares burned, most due to fires in BC, Alberta, northern Saskatchewan, and the NWT. The weekly number of fires is about double the average, and the area burned about four times the average. Read More
