The book will be focused on socio-economical aspects of spatial analysis and modelling and will therefore represent a meeting point for those researchers and scholars that in recent times are interested by the new challenges presented by the availability of spatial data at all scales and the need for implementing – or re-implementing – techniques and methods to model current spatial issues.
In fact, the growth of spatial data infrastructures produced an increase of geographical data availability at any scale and worldwide. This growth has not been fully coupled by an increase of knowledge to support spatial decisions. Spatial analytical techniques and geographical analysis and modelling methods are therefore required in order to analyse data and to facilitate the decision process at all levels. Old geographical issues can find an answer thanks to new methods and instruments, while new issues are developing, challenging the researchers for new solutions.
The contributions to this edited book will tackle topics related to to-date development of Geographic Information both in terms of the technologies available for retrieving, managing and analysing geographical data – GPS, GIS and Remote Sensing and the consequences for the economy, business, society and planning (with the environment in mind) – and with regards to the methods and models used by scholars and researchers to tackle complex spatial issues, mainly related to economy and society.
