British developer of geographic information systems (GIS) software, Cadcorp, has provided unrestricted access to a hosted demonstration version of its popular web mapping application, Web Map Layers. Prospective users in public and private sector organisations can now judge for themselves how well the application meets their particular requirements for spatial data sharing, by typing the URL of the demonstrator web site into their web browser.
Cadcorp has populated the demonstrator with a number of layers of background mapping including OS OpenData™ for the whole of England, Scotland and Wales, and OS MasterMap® data for the major conurbations. Dummy business data is also included, to allow users to try out some of the web services which can be integrated with the application: notably ‘Find my nearest’, ‘About this location’, and ‘Spatial Query’.
Mike O’Neil, CEO of Cadcorp said: “We designed Web Map Layers specifically for organisations wishing to share map-based information with a large community of non-expert users. The application had to be powerful, but also easy to use and easy to administer. An on-line demonstrator pre-populated with spatial data and web services, is proving to be a useful vehicle for demonstrating the power of this intelligent web mapping application.”
The Cadcorp Web Map Layers demonstrator can be accessed by typing the following web address into an Internet URL browser: http://ws.cadcorp.com/webmaplayers/
