Cadcorp Launches Location Intelligence Product for the Insurance Sector

  • Rating12345

Specialist British GIS software developer Cadcorp, has announced the immediate availability of Web Map Layers for Insurance. The product brings together the location of both assets and hazards into a single geographic information system, and provides location intelligence in support of multiple business activities in insurance, notably sales, underwriting, customer service, and claims investigation.

“The insurance industry has long appreciated the value of locational information as a good predictor of risk”, said Mike O’Neil, CEO of Cadcorp. “The challenge has been to share that intelligence throughout an organisation.”

Responding to this challenge, Cadcorp has designed Web Map Layers for Insurance as an easy to use browser-based web mapping and GIS application for deployment on an insurance company’s intranet. It has a user interface similar to that found in widely-used consumer-oriented internet web mapping applications, but is completely independent of the map data used in these applications.

Insurance companies deploying Web Map Layers would typically combine base map data of theirchoice with the organisation’s own business data, in a series of map layers. Together these layers record and reveal the spatial location and distribution of different types of hazards and perils, the location of insured assets, and the location of policies, events, and claims.

Users are free to determine which layers to make visible and which layers to suppress according to their particular interest. They can interact with visible map layers using a range of out-of-the-box controls for displaying, navigating, searching, reporting and exporting information.

The application goes beyond simple web map publishing by providing a number of tools for data interrogation and analysis. For example, the level of risk associated with a particular asset or location can be returned by entering the location on a map. The application will display the risk rating at that location for each type of risk available. The application will also calculate the accumulated exposure to risk for a specified area, and inform an underwriter when a pre-defined level has been reached.

A range of spatial searching capabilities are also provided, such as the ability to find the policy/asset/claim which is nearest to a given location, or the policies/assets/claims falling within a demarcated area – a flood risk for example. Cadcorp also provides services for customising and extending the functionality of the product.
