Cadcorp GIS to put Warrington on the map

  • Rating12345

Following a competitive tender, Warrington Borough Council has awarded the contract to the British software developer to centralise its Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

It will enable the council to better target services, with customers able to use the system to gain knowledge of the local area and to pin point issues and report them online.

Cadcorp technology will replace the current intranet based GIS solution and the public facing internet solution to provide consistency between the internal and external user.

The new system will better connect the council and its customers by providing a consistent platform which is used by both staff and the public. It will also allow the council to explore future integration into other systems with a geographic component such as refuse collection and road closures.

Amanda Juggins, project lead at Warrington Borough Council said: “This new technology will allow us to better target our services in the areas that need it most, enabling us to become more efficient with reducing resources. We will also be better placed to meet important EU requirements around environmental data. Most importantly our customers will find it much easier to connect with us on issues that matter to them.

It is important that the transition to the new technology goes smoothly so Cadcorp’s ability to handle multiple data formats was an important factor in us choosing them.”

Martin McGarry, MD of Cadcorp said: “UK local government is under huge pressure to use information technology as effectively as possible. Sometimes that means taking what is often a hard decision – to make changes to existing systems. Warrington has taken this step, but at the same time is ensuring that the council can continue to run ‘business as usual’ until the transition is complete.”

The Cadcorp web-based GIS Mapping Solution will consist of Web Map Editor which will provide web-based editing capabilities to editors in the council. Web Map Layers will be used by both the general public and council staff who do not have editing requirements.
