British GIS and web mapping software developer Cadcorp, has won a place on the approved list of suppliers of Software as a Service (SaaS) for Cadcorp’s submitted services, as part of the government’s G-Cloud iii framework. The G-Cloud Programme is a cross government initiative with the aim of introducing cloud ICT services into government departments, local authorities and the wider public sector. Acceptance into the CloudStore catalogue qualifies Cadcorp as a supplier of Software as a Service (SaaS) technology. The catalogue is intended to make the process of public sector procurement quicker, easier, cheaper, and more transparent.
The endorsement is for Cadcorp’s off-the-shelf web mapping application, Web Map Layers. It can be used to provide location intelligence in many areas of government business, including central and local government, emergency services, transport, health and education.
Mike O’Neil, CEO of Cadcorp, said the award is a significant recognition of Cadcorp’s ability to respond to changes in the geospatial market:
“We recognised that there were a number of organisations that wanted to purchase web mapping as a service on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ basis. We responded by offering Web Map Layers based on SaaS technology. The inclusion of Web Map Layers in CloudStore can only make it easier for us to meet that demand.”
