Buildings in OSM-3D: Now With Roof Geometries

  • Rating12345

The project OSM-3d.org becomes a bit more detailed and realistic. Since a couple of weeks, different OSM keys with building roof information (e.g. building:roof, building:roof:shape, building:roof:type, building:roof:angle and building:roof:height) are considered while building model creation. That is, based on this information, an approximate roof geometry is generated at least for simple building shapes in a first step. These are automatically integrated into OSM-3D. For creating even more realistic building models, the key building:roof:colour and building:roof:color are also evaluated, so the roof geometry can be colored appropriately. In the case that the mentioned keys are not available for a distinct building, the generation process tries to estimate the values or assign them randomly. OSM-3D currently serves over 35 million 3D buildings within Europe. Read More
