The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) has appointed Dr. Petra Bianchi as the new Environment Protection Director. She will be replacing the outgoing Director, Mr Martin Seychell who at the end of February will be taking up a new post in Brussels as Deputy Director General at the European Commission’s Directorate for Health. Alstom has signed a contract worth approximately €500 million with Norte Energia of Brazil to provide power equipment for the Belo Monte Dam, the world’s third-largest hydroelectric power plant with a planned capacity of 11,230 MW.
