Astun Proud to Support MapAction

  • Rating12345

Staff from Astun Technology, the leading provider of cloud-based open-source GIS solutions to local and central governments, once again proudly joined the ranks of volunteers who gave their time and expertise to support MapAction this year.

Commenting on all those who supported the charity, MapAction Chief Executive Liz Hughes said; “Our volunteers are the lifeblood of the organisation – without these highly skilled and incredibly committed individuals we simply could not deliver our humanitarian mapping service.”

MapAction, first conceived in 1994 has grown to be an organisation that can deploy a fully trained and equipped humanitarian mapping and information team to natural and man-made emergencies, wherever they happen in the world.

Summing up last year, Liz Hughes explained; “Over the course of 2016, employers such as Astun enabled MapAction volunteers to dedicate over 460 field days to disaster response, preparedness and training activities.”

“Through their support we were able to mobilise teams to respond to 16 countries to help with emergencies that were affecting over 30 million people in situations as diverse as the cyclone in Fiji and the conflict in NE Nigeria.”

Explaining why Astun supports their staff by allowing them to take the time they need to volunteer, CEO Mike Saunt explained; “We’re extremely proud of the time and effort our staff put in to supporting the vital services that MapAction provides and it’s a real team effort because the whole company pitches in and works on customer projects when our volunteers are away, ensuring everyone receives the very best service possible.
