FTIR-based GHG analysis supporting soil and ecosystem research – Gasmet at EGU26

Gasmet brings portable FTIR-based GHG analysis to EGU26 with studies at the conference relying on data collected using Gasmet instruments

Gasmet Technologies will participate in the EGU General Assembly 2026 in Vienna in May (booth #55), an event that brings together thousands of researchers working on soil processes, ecosystems, agriculture, wetlands, and climate science. Some of the studies presented at the conference have been conducted using data collected with Gasmet’s FTIR-based gas analyzers as part of their measurement setups.

Accurate greenhouse gas measurements in natural environments require instrumentation that reliably quantifies specific key GHGs: CO, CH, NO, NH and HO vapor simultaneously, in a single setup.

Gasmet’s portable FTIR technology is designed exactly for this purpose, enabling researchers to perform simultaneous multi-gas measurements directly in the field without multiple sensors, parallel systems, or separate data sources.

Field research in natural and agricultural ecosystems often involves remote locations, dynamic conditions, and the need to measure several greenhouse gases at once. Traditional manual sampling introduces multiple error sources, requires transporting large sets of accessories, and often depends on laboratory processing.

Real-time, in‑field analysis with a portable FTIR instrument helps overcome these challenges by providing stable, simultaneous multi-gas measurements directly at the site, a capability increasingly relied upon by researchers working everywhere from the Amazon to the Arctic.

Gasmet FTIR analyzers are widely used in studies focusing on:

  • soil carbon and nitrogen processes
  • agricultural greenhouse gas emissions
  • wetland and mangrove fluxes
  • permafrost and Arctic ecosystem GHG dynamics
  • carbon budget and flux modelling in natural ecosystems

At EGU26, Gasmet will demonstrate the GT5000 Terra portable FTIR gas analyzer and present examples of recent research conducted with the instrument. Visitors can meet Gasmet experts at booth #55 to explore how FTIR analysis supports soil, ecosystem, and agricultural gas flux studies, and to discuss practical measurement workflows. Visitors can also capture themselves into the same frame with GT5000 Terra, the beloved yellow box of many researchers.
