Intergeo 2026 to spotlight 3D reconstruction, urban twins and interoperability

  • Rating12345

Three-dimensional reconstruction and modelling have moved well beyond niche applications – they now form a core foundation for digital infrastructure, urban twins and data-driven decision-making at scale. These themes will take centre stage at Intergeo 2026, which will be held in Munich from 15 to 17 September.

As isolated workflows evolve into integrated, automated process chains spanning data acquisition, semantic enrichment and application-ready visualization, the demand for powerful technologies, reliable quality standards and interpretabel systems has never been greater. Two use cases illustrate the direction the field is heading.

A plugin developed by STEG Stadtentwicklung GmbH demonstrates how building energy data can be integrated directly into a GIS environment, enabling data-driven analysis and planning at district level – a practical example of how 3D approaches are finding their way into municipal energy planning. A separate contribution examines current developments in 3D modelling, from real-time reconstruction and automated workflows to 3D Gaussian splatting, while addressing the ongoing challenges of interoperability and standardization within the geospatial domain.

Contribute to the conversation

For those looking to contribute to the conversation, the call for ideas remains open. Submissions are welcome for the main stage, where the focus is on technology-driven trends, innovations and standards, as well as for the application dome, which highlights best practices, use cases and practical solutions. This year, the opening of the conference programme will be accessible to all attendees regardless of ticket type, with a valid conference ticket required for the remainder of the programme.

Intergeo 2026 continues to serve as a leading international platform for innovation and exchange within the geospatial community. Early ticket registration is now open.
