Leading Geospatial Event Sets Sights on Utah’s Fast-Growing Geospatial Tech Hub

DENVER, CO – February 18, 2026 – Geo Week, North America’s premier geospatial and mapping technology event, announced that it will relocate to Salt Lake City, Utah from Denver, Colorado in 2027. The move positions the event in one of the nation’s fastest-growing tech markets with an established geospatial ecosystem and a thriving community of mapping professionals.

“We’re eager to host Geo Week in Salt Lake City and expand our industry partnerships,” said Lee Corkhill, Event Director for Geo Week. “The city puts our industry’s work on display— from maintaining sophisticated GIS operations covering water systems, utilities, transportation infrastructure, and public lands, to lidar acquisition and open data initiatives—making Salt Lake City an ideal location for showcasing geospatial technology in action.”

Why SLC? A Collaborative Geospatial Hub in a Fast-Growing Tech Market
Salt Lake City and the surrounding regions boast thousands of geospatial professionals across the public sector, utility companies, and private firms. Salt Lake City has emerged as one of the nation’s fastest-growing tech hubs and ranks 3rd among all large U.S. metros for overall economic performance, driven in part by tech sector strength which accounts for 8.5% of Salt Lake’s workforce with a $13 billion economic impact.

Within this thriving tech ecosystem, Utah has well-established geospatial resources across an ecosystem of professional associations, user groups, and government programs that create a collaborative environment for advancing geospatial science and technology throughout the region. The city and county maintain sophisticated GIS operations covering water systems, utilities, stormwater, transportation infrastructure, public lands and lidar acquisition for the entire region, while the state’s open data initiatives provide public access to extensive spatial datasets, providing ample real-world case studies of geospatial innovation in action.

Higher Education and Workforce Development
Utah’s geospatial education landscape includes multiple universities creating a pipeline of skilled professionals entering the industry. Salt Lake City has one of the highest concentrations of young professionals in North America and consistently ranks nationally for growth in college-educated residents. University-affiliated research laboratories provide specialized support for geospatial projects and spatial analysis in conjunction with regional user groups and professional associations to ensure students gain both technical skills. The academic landscape supports critical Geo Week initiatives that provide ample networking and career growth opportunities to advance overall geospatial workforce development.

Continuing Geo Week’s Mission in an Innovation-Focused City
Geo Week 2027 will maintain the event’s core mission of bringing together geospatial and mapping professionals to explore how data, maps, and advanced technologies create data-informed solutions for complex challenges. Salt Lake City’s positioning as a major city at the intersection of alpine mountains, desert environments, and the Great Salt Lake creates an ideal location to showcase real-world geospatial applications.

Geo Week will take place February 23-25, 2027 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.  For more information and to sign up for event updates, visit www.geo-week.com/salt-lake-city. To discuss potential partnership opportunities, email [email protected].
